A Sonnet For My Grandfather

It is nearly a fortnight since you left. You fought it hard, but your body was wracked. It's a violation, almost a theft. But you left proudly, dignity intact. Like a Renaissance Man, you taught us well. A hero for family and country. Did you sacrifice? It was hard to tell. Even though you're gone, we can't feel empty. "I'm not spoiled, but loved", you always said. You always had us look towards the future. Roots of our tree, our family you led. You were our backbone, mentor, and tutor. We must remain strong for Mom and Grandma. No longer here, but your love's never far.
